OP Athlete - Running Shoes: FAQs
How do I choose the right running shoe for my foot type
Start by identifying whether you have neutral, overpronated, or underpronated stride mechanics.
- Neutral runners do well with most cushioned models like the Cloudstratus 3.
- Overpronators (feet roll inward excessively) benefit from stability shoes like the Cloudflyer 4.
- Unsure? Visit one of our stores for analysis or try models with structured support/cushioning.

How long do running shoes last?
Running shoes generally last between 300–500 km (180–310 miles), depending on the surface, your weight, and running style.
If you run 3–5 times a week, expect to replace your shoes every 3–4 months. Signs they’re worn out include:
- Flattened cushioning
- Worn outsole
- New aches or discomfort during your run
What’s the difference between road and trail running shoes?
- Road running shoes (e.g. Cloudstratus, Cloudflyer) are designed for pavement and offer more responsive cushioning and lightweight build.
- Trail shoes (e.g. Cloudvista) provide grip, protection, and stability on uneven terrain. They often have reinforced uppers and lugged soles for traction.
Should I rotate between different running shoes?
Yes. Rotating between 2–3 pairs of running shoes helps:
- Extend the lifespan of each pair
- Reduce injury risk by varying foot stress
- Match the right shoe to the type of run (e.g. tempo, long, recovery)
What is heel-to-toe drop, and why does it matter?
The heel-to-toe drop is the height difference between the heel and forefoot.
- Higher drops (8–12 mm), like the Cloudflyer 4 (10 mm), reduce calf and Achilles strain. Ideal for longer distances or those prone to lower leg issues.
- Lower drops (4–6 mm), like the Cloudstratus 3 (6 mm), encourage a more natural, mid foot strike.
What’s the best shoe for both running and training?
The Cloud X4 is designed for versatility. It’s lightweight, cushioned, and stable, perfect for short runs, gym sessions, and HIIT workouts.
When should I replace my running shoes?
Replace them when you notice:
- Pain or soreness after runs
- Uneven wear on the outsole
- Reduced bounce or cushioning
If you track mileage, aim to switch between 300–500 km.
What size should I buy?
Running shoes should be about half a size larger than your normal shoe size to allow for toe room during runs.
Make sure there’s a thumb’s width of space in the toe box. If you're between sizes, size up.
